With the exception of the problem below, all is well with Netflix streaming
running on Mythbuntu 8.04 in Firefox.I downloaded the not-free version from
virtualbox.org, opened it and installed it. I picked 512 for memory and 10G
for hard disk and pretty much the rest was just following instructions.
Installed XP and updated it to SP3. I installed the guest edition drivers
so that I would get full screen at 1280x720. Installed Firefox and then
Netflix.com/silverlightoptin and the netflix player and watched the start of
a movie.
The issue I have is that with my AMD 5400+ top shows about 105% CPU usage
and the video looked just a slight bit choppy.
Does anyone know if this CPU load is normal or if there is some setting I
need to change. I see a lot of google chatter about 100% cpu usage but that
is at idle and I run about 4% at idle so this is something different. I run
about 15% on my slightly faster XP desktop running netflix through
firefox/silverlight directly so there is something like a 500% loss from
virtualbox if it is real.
I would appreciate knowing what others are seeing in CPU load with netflix
under virtualbox and especially if someone knows a way to improve upon what
I am seeing.
Allen
