Possible, but i wouldn't worry about it.  I haven't seen any crash
related stuff, just that vbox doesn't work if not installed
correctly.

I have a usb mouse, and that was no problem.  AFAIK, the mouse
commands all come from the host.

If you don't need usb for anything else, i would just use synaptic
or apt and get it from the ubuntu repositories (IE # 1).

For USB, #3 is probably fine.
