[mythtv-users] SBLive audio works with playback but not with LiveTV

Here's an interesting one:
Configuration: AMD+, Mythbuntu 8.10, 1GB RAM, HVR 1900:
Audio: SBLive (default ALSA), CX8811, V8237

Was using the onboard V8237, but got a horrible whistling sound when
listening to playback for videos, etc. Tried upgrading drivers, ALSA, etc.
to no avail. Decided to try the onboard CX8811 (blackbird)...boy was that a
mistake. Went out of the frying pan into the fire...so distorted as to make
it impossible to listen.
So, I put in an old 5.1 SBLive card I had lying around and for playback, it
was beautiful. Configured ALSA to use it as the default card. Playback
works a treat. But I get no sound for live TV. I did the usual mute line
in, but to no avail. When I mute the line in, there is no sound, it's like
it's not picking it up from the disk.
I used the alsamixer CLI to select my capture input (Line) and muted the
volume, but it doesn't look like it's reading from the files on disk. I
checked to see if it was a problem with the internal player, but it plays
other files fine. Just has a problem with Live TV.
I know the audio from live TV is working because if I UNmute it, I can hear
perfectly, but with the normal audio sync problems (ahead of the video), and
it of course persists after exiting live TV.
So, cable, card etc are working, but live TV isn't.

Have tried using /dev/dsp and /dev/dsp2 for mythtv config (and everything in
between in the meantime). Frontend currently set to ALSA:default (although
I tried others).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) is
currently high, but if I can't sort this problem, I may have to cave and get
