This gets interesting. I have my asound.conf set up just like the
code in the wiki I wrote
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki?title=AllensDigitalAudioHowto

I tried getting something out of mplayer and after some false starts I
got an mp3 file to play. The interesting thing is that it only played
with one of the two decoders I have. Background: I have a technics
spdif decoder that is set to stereo and connects to my Tv and an
Outlaw 990 that with spdif input that is for the 5.1 surround system.

The mplayer mp3 (and the myth music mp3) only play through the
Technics decoder. The 990 is silent. Under normal TV viewing, they
both work. I spent some time with Tech support and will start a new
thread to try and resolve this issue.
