Exactly. The time warner hd dvr is 9.95 for the monthly dvr service and 9.95
for the monthly rental of the dvr box. So a $300 tivo plus $12.95 per month
takes around 3 years just to break even with time warner's offering. Also,
I'm not sure who most of the users here have for cable companies, but time
warner's dvr is pretty sweet. I can only imagine a tivo being just a little
bit better. It parallels myth's interface and sometimes is even better than
myth. Myth just does so much more, but from an interface and reliability
standpoint, we were very happy with it (and I'm especially picky when it
comes to electronics). Eventually, we just said let's just get a myth setup
and be done with monthly fees.
Then there's the ton of added benefits a myth system adds, like commercial
skip (man, we now wonder how we did without it for so long), being able to
transfer recordings to my cell phone, schedule from the web, myth video, etc
etc etc. That's all icing on the cake.
