I think this is your confusion. Most of the devs have clearly said
that don't expect anything from users or would-be coders. They help
where they can, but most have clearly said they do this in their spare
time with the primary goal of having a system that works for
themselves. Then they are happy to share their work with those who
want to use it. This is how the project was started by Isaac and the
same attitude seems to be adopted by most of the devs. You are not the
first to come and make a "rant" about how the mythtv devs should do
"x" more like the "y" project. The devs simply have different goals
than other projects. Sure your suggestions may help "grow the
community" or "make it easier for new comers", but it also would take
a lot of time and effort on somebodies part and it simply isn't a
priority for them.
