This seems like the setup that I should be using. I went inti synaptic
and searched for mythtv and mysql and removed all entries. Then I went
to the Mythbuntu Desktop site ( http://www.mythbuntu.org/existing-ubuntu
) and started the download and install.

The process went on until the following was shown in terminal...

Setting up xfce4-icon-theme (4.4.2-1)...
Setting up Mythtv-status (0.7.3-1ubuntu1)...
 ' updating Mythtv Status mythtv-status
Sorry, failed to fetch http://loxalhost :6544/xml.
 ...done.

Processing triggers for libc6...
ldconfig deferred processing now taking place
Processing triggers for initramfs-tools...
update initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24.21-generic

Any ideas what happened?
