I am well aware of the tiny over-the-air HD trial that was run in the
London area
(<URL:http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/276184#276184>). From
the article you cite:

Not surprisingly 98% of the 450 people who took part think that
the over-the-air HD service should be available now. Those people
can whistle all they want because the bandwidth just isn’t
    available.

Also note the date of the post. In November 2006:

* My biggest issue with MythTV on my then 11 months-old setup was
deleting enough existing recordings on my then 2TB of recording
space to keep up with the constant influx of new recordings.
* In terms of channel availability, I "only" had 14 HD channels then
as opposed to the 29 now.
* In terms of program availability, all primetime (excluding some
reality and talk) and most weekend-sports programs were already
available in HD then. Since then the big change is that more daytime
programs (Oprah, Jeopardy!, etc.) have gone HD.
* In terms of hardware, my HDTV-capable frontend--a Pentium 4
3.0GHz--has remained *exacty the same* since I first began MythTVing
  three years ago this December.

None of this would have been true *anywhere outside North America*,
and is still largely true almost two years later.
