To a certain extent this depends on your setup. If you have a separate
backend, then your frontend can be small, and you can hide it in various
ways. The Mac Mini and even Asus EE are small enough to hide behind the
LCD. You could even mount a 1U rackmount style case behind the LCD with
many wall mounts (I could with my wall mount bracket...hmmmm!).

If you have space nearby, you are only limited by the length of the
video cable feeding the LCD. This is, in fact, the only real limitation
on placement of the frontend computer, However, you may need a remote IR
receiver near the LCD and you would then have to deal with it's wires.

If you have space in the room behind the LCD, the cable length can be
quite short even if the BE/FE is in a cupboard in the next room.
Electrical wiring for power outlets and cutting and finishing holes in
drywall are indicated specialties.

If it is a combined BE/FE then the size requirement increases, but then
the limitation is the type of tuner you use. If the tuner is a remote
unit (hdhomerun or set top box with firewire, for example) then the
backend is size limited by the storage. If you have a choice, then the
1Terabyte hard drives start to look good for lots of reasons.

In the last chance roundup, you purchase a good looking case, which can
fake being a piece of audio equipment (say SilverstoneTek) and stack it
with the stereo receiver/amp and leave it at that. You will have more
trouble with all the wires from the stereo than with the myth box.

You must realize that a myth project is more driven by the technical
requirements of what you want, than by the aesthetics of the box.
Unfortunately, technical requirements sometimes smash directly into the
Wife Acceptance Factor. I have NO advice on that!.. Will not go there! I
may practice law, but I don't do divorce!
