I'm going to make one simple suggestion that will probably save you hours of
your own time (and time is money)

It just works.  Out of the box support by Linux.  For SPDIF, you don't need
any .asoundrc, just go into alsamixer and unmute the IEC958 line and you're
good to go.  It will be the best $20 you spend on your Myth box and you
won't have this problem.
