Disclaimer: I don't own one...

Having said that, unless this thing has some very expensive DSP (it doesn't)
that can sample it at the hundreds of MHz and "digitally" tune it, it most
likely uses an analog tuning circuit to modulate the signal down to an
intermediate frequency and samples that.

Basically put, the analog tuning circuit can only tune to one carrier
frequency (channel) at a time, be it an analog VHF channel or a digital UHF
channel.  It will only be able to read ATSC or NTSC but not both at the same
time.
