The hardware:
Crappy 4:3 27" Advent HDTV capable of 1080i
nvidia 6200 with xvmc for HD content
Software:
mythbuntu .21, fully patched, latest nvidia driver retrieved with
envyng (stock nvidia driver from ubuntu did the same thing).
The problem
So my crappy TV doesn't really handle 1080i very well. Its blurry and
squished due to it being 4:3 not 16:9. (If someone wants to suggest
how to unsquish it that's cool, although I'm fine running at 576i). So
I run it at HD576i. If I don't set Modes in the Screens section of
xorg.conf it uses 1024x768 as the virtual resolution. Fine,
whatever... seems to work OK for SD content. But HD content is all
motion blurred. I've ran with -v playback and it claims that bob deint
is being used but it definitely isn't doing what it should. If I do
run at 1080i then there is no motion blur. Its just ugly and squishy.
So my questions: Should I be running at a different virtual
resolution? How would I do that? Why isn't BOB doing its thing? I've
read that if something isn't clocked high enough it won't work but
there aren't any errors in the output that would point me in that
direction.
