I am surprised that you are having problems unless you are not using
XvMC. I almost had enough power with my P4 2.4GHz machine. There was
no tearing of video and only occasional hiccups in the audio. This was
with Mythbuntu. It has a lot of the Ubuntu stuff removed to make it
bare bones. Hope this is helpful.
