I'm very happy with my StreamZap remote. I know that's not really
what you are asking, but it comes with an excellent USB IR receiver
that works with all the remotes I've ever tried with it (3).

It's not restricted to just the remote it comes with. For about $30,
I guess you could throw out the remote and have a nice USB IR receiver
to use with your favorite remote. :-)

Good luck on finding directions with a IR receiver for how to
configure with lirc. In my experience, the StreamZap seems to have
good lirc support and is supported by MythDora, KnoppMyth, and
MythBuntu as part of the installation and/or reconfiguration.

I second this. I have a StreamZap that came as a part of a package deal when
I got my HD-5000
I have the original remote somewhere but I started using a Harmony remote
with it. My first Harmony died (676), several keys started having to be
pressed really hard and it was nolonger under warrantee so I bought a new
one (880).
