I bought what was advertised as an MCE remote off eBay. It turned out
to be called a "Holtek" remote. To start with I thought I'd bought a
dead duck as it was a nightmare with LIRC (actually, TBH, I find most
things with LIRC a nightmare!) But then I realised that the remote &
USB receiver that were actually emulating a USB keyboard and different
keys represented different key presses or combinations of key presses.
This actually works well and like one of the other posters here I find
it easier now because I don't have to have LIRC installed.

I can't really decide whether I recommend this approach or not. It
took me a while to configure it all how I wanted it, but now it's done
I prefer it to LIRC. But if I was being honest, I'd say the easiest
thing to do it get a proper MCE remote as it's well supported. If you
have a look on www.wilsonet.com under the MythTV section I think he
describes how to get these working.

Regards,
Phill
