Likewise here, I get:
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 1752 MB in 2.00 seconds = 875.60 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 180 MB in 3.02 seconds = 59.66 MB/sec
/dev/sdb:
Timing cached reads: 1782 MB in 2.00 seconds = 891.09 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 198 MB in 3.01 seconds = 65.84 MB/sec
Little bit slower, but not much.
These are PATA drives, the "sd" is Kubuntu doing its thing.
For comparison, a scsi hardware RAID5 system:
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 1030 MB in 2.00 seconds = 514.26 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 252 MB in 3.02 seconds = 83.32 MB/sec
And a RAID0 LVM system:
dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol01:
Timing cached reads: 1310 MB in 2.00 seconds = 655.05 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 328 MB in 3.00 seconds = 109.25 MB/sec
YMMV of course.
