And how do you explain that a DB error would crash X and produce a mutex error?

In any case, on this machine there's only a frontend, so it first
tries to connect to a local database which doesn't exist (which is why
you see the DB error) then it tries to another mythbackend on the
network using UPnP ...

So any DB error you see in here is completely irrelevant.
