Mike (and others),

Thanks for the help with this problem.  My box is all nice and tidy
again now.  In return I thought it right to document our findings on
the Wiki.  If possible, could you peruse
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Repairing_the_Seektable and
ensure it is not misleading in anyway.
