Definitely behind the times a bit:

MythTV Version : 19114M
MythTV Branch : branches/release-0-21-fixes
Library API : 0.21.20080304-1
Network Protocol : 40

So I'll try to get an updated version.

One of the other performance issues, which may be the underlying
problem, is the load
generated by X. It is consistently at
 4421 root 20 0 413m 27m 21m R 90.5 1.4 8:03.89
X
or higher. 90.5 cpu...just not good.

It is a GeForce 9400 GT running NVidia driver version 177.82 compiled
locally. I use the
standard xorg.conf provided by running nvidia-xconfig with the only
other option added
    Option "UseEvents" "True"
