[mythtv-users] Software Update always results in X not starting

Although this is not "exactly" a MythTV question, it is on my
dedicated MythTV box and maybe some of y'all have had or seen this
problem.

When my Linux boots, it tells me that Updates are available. Every 6
months or so, I decide to let those updates run as I suspect they are
security and bug fixes. Unfortunately after the updates, I ALWAYS
have problems with my xorg.conf file. There's just something about
it that the new Kernel just doesn't like. It must revert to a
generic xorg.conf file before X will start up.

I have tried using other xorg.conf files that I know have worked in
the past. I have tried removing and installing the NVidia drivers:
yum remove nvidia-graphics9746-libs nvidia-graphics-devices nvidia-
graphics-helpers
yum -y install nvidia-graphics9746-libs nvidia-graphics-devices
nvidia-graphics-helpers

Only if I reboot the computer and select the older Kernel, then X
will start and everything is fine.

So my latest updates were run an 9/16/2007. I now have Fedora Core
(2.6.22.5-49.fc6) as one boot Kernel and Fedora Core
(2.6.20-1.2944.fc6) as my second boot Kernel. X will not start with
the newest kernel, 2.6.22.5. Instead the Xorg.0.log ends with this:
(II) Setting vga for screen 0.
(**) NVIDIA(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32

Does anybody else have this problem? Does anybody know how to get X
to use my new kernel? Should I care whether the new or old kernel
works? Should I bother updating my system?
