[mythtv-users] Keyboard/Remote only partially working in MythTV/View Live TV

Can you run mythfrontend in a shell window so you can capture/see the 
logging output?  It sounds to me like your OSD theme is messed up.  The 
MENU displayed during TV watching is different and doesn't use the theme 
which could explain that.
