There's a setting "Preferred MPEG2 decoder". There are 4 choices:
'Standard'; 'libmpeg2'; 'Standard XvMC' and 'VIA XvMC'.
I just have the 'Standart' option selected.

I just tried that. A scheduled recording has actually been recorded.
And it plays just fine with both mplayer and within MythTV.
