Nah, you can still upgrade. Of course, it depends a little on what you mean by 
upgrade. If you mean "save database and recordings, install clean OS", then 
you ought to be fine w/the default package selection (video4linux bits don't 
install by default), but if you try upgrading the OS, you may need to remove 
some video4linux bits after the fact, assuming that upgrade even works 
(haven't actually tried that).
