[mythtv-users] Migrating from Fedora Core to Ubuntu

This may be a little bit off-topic - but I have done something similar
(FC5 backend/frontend, with a new frontend running ubuntu edgy).

Mythtv itself seems to work, I can browse the recordings/etc of the
frontend. But I cant play recorded shows - it just goes to black, and
jumps back to mythtv. I am suspecting its a codec issue, as when I
double click on one of the mpg files generated on the mythtv backend,
it complains that a codec is missing - yet I have installed all sorts
of codecs (I searched for codecs/ubuntu).

Can you offer any hints here?
