Two things to watch for:

1.  If an app opens a file, then deletes it without closing it, it will 
remain open, taking up space, but invisible with an ls command.

2.  It is also possible that you can run out of inodes before you run 
out of disk space.

It's been so long since I've had to deal with either issue that I've 
forgotten how to show these....
