If lightning hits within 50 feet of your house, pretty much everything
electronic is dead due to the EMP. There is no way to "protect" you from
lightning, you can protect from surges which are incredibly small compared
to lightning.

Solution? Insurance. That is the only protection you can have for
lightning damage. Now you can reduce lightning ingress, just use HAM RADIO
techniques, have all cables that enter the home do a 180 degree turn high
energy lightning does not like to turn arund, so it will exit the wire at
the 180 IF there is a conductive ground there to take it away. Note, this
sill not stop all the voltage, but it will stop your sattelite box from
exploding and taking out the rest of your house from a really big strike.

If you really want to spend $$$ on "protection" look at the polyphaser
brand, they are the absolute best out there.

And of course everybody missed the obvious problem here! *sigh*
*Must* I point out the obvious?

What happens if lightning strikes your dish, eh? *sheesh*

(*Takes tongue out of cheek*)
