Well that's a motivator for us all.

If you get too frustrated over this, as I did, consider the MyBlaster  
device. It's around $50 but I had it working ten minutes after I took  
it out of the box and I haven't had a missed channel channel change  
since I installed almost a year ago.

There are some down sides besides cost: You need a serial port or a  
USB-Serial converter, it does require another AC power brick, but it  
does work perfectly and already knows all the DISH codes.

It all depends on what you have more of: time, patience or money :-)
