Try a normal IR RF-RF repeater, with the transmitter outside the cabinet
(somewhere in the room), and the receiver/IR blaster inside. The receiver
picks up IR, turns it into RF, sends it to the receiver, which then blasts
out the IR signal. I use the one-for-all brand one, and it works fine
room to room. Many of the video repeaters that use 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz also
include the IR repeater "backchannel" which goes back to the unit that has
the video source, so you can control say a cable box in the other room.
You *could* also try a "peephole" lens (like on hotel doors) that looks
like a plastic mushroom. DOn't think you will get enough IR in to work,
but it *could* work. Try it with your stuff in a carboard box, and see if
enough gets in. Available at most hardware stores.
