Ahh yeah, on gentoo when I went to re-emerge ivtv it gave me an error
about not having the right options in the kernel so I caught that.

for the problem.  My HD-5500 is hooked up to digital cable, all the
connections tightened down, so while it still may be a signal level,
the signal shouldn't be so low as to be having this problem all of a
sudden.
