I'm an IT guy with a heavy background of FreeBSD but almost no linux use. About 6 months ago I set up a box with knoppmyth to play around with and get to know myth in a relaxed atmosphere before I entrust it with my football games. I've learned to change channels on my directv, liberated dvd's that were encrptically challenged, made an ATI 9600 and 9250 card play nice with ATI and GATOS drivers and read every archive and faq I could before I sent my first email to this list. So here are my questions.I can pickup this system for $650.00 US$. What kind of driver and performance issues should I expect considering I'll be in SD only until my 60" Toshiba dies. (hopefully no time soon)

HP m7667c Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz, 2GB DDR2, 2x300GB SATA/RAID, DL DVD±RW Lightscribe, DVD-ROM, Flash Reader, nVidia 7500LE, TV Tuner, Wireless LAN/Keyb/Mouse (tuner driver is listed as Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II23xxx, 25xxx and 26xxx TV tuner)

Also without starting a distro war I've done some web browsing and such on the knoppmyth box with the frontend down and thought it would be nice to set this up with KDE & Openoffice and use it as a regular PC at night so as to not wake the wife. Would I be better off changing distros now and building everything from source or use packages or stick with Knoppix . Keep in mind I am not worried about time or effort but It will need to be stable when finished.

P.S.Never even thought about Lightscribe in linux until I spell checked . Has it been done?
