I'll chime in with similar experience. Up until recently (and who
knows for how much longer), I was unable to record anything useful
over firewire, now I can record everything except pay-per-view so I
went through the whole process of upgrading my backend to SVN and
daisy-chaining two Motorola boxes via firewire. SVN's improvements in
firewire recording are great, and with enabling of the bus reset
option I've had it going for about 5 days now with perfect results
(cross fingers, knock on wood, etc).
