It will do what you need if you handle the software. Of course they 
mention nothing of linux on the site but there is a VB app and source 
included so they'll likely be helpful in case something isn't already 
floating in the ether. I don't own or use it but did install one for a 
friend's new CRM/accounting system. For us, it was virtually plug-n-play 
because the SW was already installed with the system and patiently 
waiting for data on COM1.

I found most internet sites selling for 249US retail but did notice 
sandman.com in Chicago at under 190US. At that price, i would also look 
at true TAPI modems (think USR Courier) which will accomplish the same 
thing and give you a bulletproof modem as well.

Here's the data format over 8/N/1. The friend's accounting system is a 
little flaky with COM1 and it was recommended to try a USB-serial dongle 
but admitted that their app was buggy.
