Yeah.  Let's just say when I was doing

dd if=/dev/video0 of=/dev/video16 bs=1M

(or whatever--haven't done it in forever) on my PVR-350 and messing with 
my DISH STB's system menus, I was amazed at the delay.  You might have a 
bit less with software decode, but I still think you should try it to 
verify the idea is worth pursuing.
