I disagree. They may have created Data Direct to reduce load on their
servers, but they weren't obligated to. They could have accomplished
the same thing by blocking screen scraping -- say, by rejecting IP
addresses that generated excessive requests, like many WHOIS servers
have done. The fact that they put effort into creating a service to
accommodate us instead of just blocking us represents an act of
generosity on their part.
