Menu's are editable.  KDE is totally configurable.

Linux isn't like windows - it doesn't matter what is installed on disk 
as long as applications aren't running.  There is no registry, there is 
no applications that are going to remove existing drivers etc.  The only 
concern is disk space and that shouldn't really concern anyone anymore.

You don't to use openbox if you are needing a gui to configure stuff - 
unless you go for a hybrid approach of running openbox on Fedora or 
Redhat where you would have access to all the system-config-network type 
gui's that can be invoked from any window manager.
