I see a lot of messages about "live TV" not working, but nobody 
ever seems to complain about recording one show while watching 
another.  Is there any real difference between the two situations 
as far as the mythbackend is concerned?

FWIW, you should check out the ivtv mailing list archives (also on 
the gossamer threads web site) as dual-CPU systems seem to have a 
LOT of problems.  It has something to do with the way Linux deals 
with the APICs.
