My emitter head came with a bit of sticky
tape on the back so you can glue it onto where it
goes. The emitter sits about 10 mm to the right of
the little green light on the front of the D10.

My version of the lircd.conf file for the D10
is at http://mishnet.org/MythTV/lircd-directv.conf.
It's just the standard version with the "gap" value
altered.

Here is my channel change script:

-------------------- lirc_channel_change.sh -----------------------
#!/bin/bash

ivtv-tune -c3select

REMOTE_NAME=D10 # Define my remote name here

for digit in $(echo $1 | sed -e 's/./& /g'); do
irsend SEND_ONCE $REMOTE_NAME $digit # Send the output to Lirc
done
irsend SEND_ONCE $REMOTE_NAME select
-------------------- lirc_channel_change.sh -----------------------

The main thing was positioning the IR header and increasing
the gap value in the config file. I set mine to a value I had seen
in other similar config files.
It also helps to have a blaster with the led. This gives
you some feedback regarding whether or not /dev/lirc0 itself is
working.

...and my /etc/modules

lirc_dev
#lirc_streamzap
#lirc_i2c

lirc_serial
