[mythtv-users] Strange....disk partition gone?

First off, this is a Debian system. It's been up and stable for over
a week now, new installation. Disk-wise, there are 2 200GB drives,
one holds the system and recordings, the other (added later) holds
rips.

Yesterday, I deployed Myth on my Ubuntu laptop, mostly as a "proof of
concept" before buying any new gear.

Ripped one DVD from the laptop, worked fine.

Ripped a second one, "The Forgotten". This disk is evil, but that's
another thread.

So, figuring the problem was the laptop, I attempted to rip it from
the main Myth box, It froze, mythfrontend and MTD were completely
unresponsive. I did a normal restart of the system.

When the system came back, it went into single-user mode - couldn't
find /dev/hdg ( the rip drive). Odd, so I checked cables, power, and
rebooted. BIOS saw it, but Linux didn't. Into single-user, fsck.jfs
wouldn't see it. Exited, let it go into X, still no /dev/hdg. Ran
fdisk, it saw the physical device, but acted like there wasn't a
partition on it. Created new partition, then ran parted. Recovered
partion in parted, and it mounted, everything is there.

Any ideas about what happended? Did the rip of "The Forgotten"
somehow toast the partition?

Thanks!
-Al
