What CPU are you using to get these numbers ?
I'm also using 6.9, changed the Device section as above, but glxgears gives me 
about 1037 FPS. After 'hiding' the 'gears-display' it gets to 3211.330 FPS.
Really curious what the differences might be. My CPU is 1.8GHz
