At work I manage > a dozen of machines with 3ware controllers, ranging
from 7506 to 9000 series, and don't see these kinds of problems.  Most
are RH9 w/2.4.20 + patches, but some are Fedora.

I'm sure people have issues but these are I/O bound applications and
working quite well (performance was tolerable even when they were RAID
5, though 10 is obviously better).
