I'm currently working on getting the various speed up ideas implemented (I
didn't like any single patch, though all contained various good ideas you'll
likely find in the final commit).

The DB shenanigans are gone, the number of queries currently generated is
just silly, sorting using the DB (and subsequently reloading all metadata)
is also gone. That plus some caching, common code elimination, and other
various cleanups should be coming to a mythvideo near you soon, ish.
