[mythtv-users] is mythtv smart enough to do this (overlap/back-to-back) with recordings?

David Engel (the scheduler guru--who, BTW, doesn't want the
functionality) is working with a couple of users (both from Australia,
IIRC) who want the functionality. Once they've got it to a state where
it's completely optional and have proven that it has no negative
consequences (at least when not used) and performs in an intuitive
manner, it will likely be committed. As you probably noticed from the
thread, even for this (simpler than the functionality described here),
there were a /lot/ of unexpected tiny details that came out when trying
to code it (some of which they're still trying to decide how to handle).

It will not "fix" the inability to record to two files from one card
that some want, but it will allow users to specify padding and get it
/only/ when it doesn't cause conflicts. Therefore, in some cases, part
of a show will appear in the recording for another show.

However, it takes exactly the approach that Brad recommended (in c,
primarily, and to some extent d) in
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/215826#215826 (and a
and b were the ones he said people wouldn't want).
