This talking to myself is quiet therapeutic. :-)
Spent more time fretting over this issue, and decided to put the FX440 back
in the system and take another close look. With the FX440, I discovered the
following two cases appear virtually the same when displaying 1080i source
on 1080i DVI.
Nvidia 8762 driver + XvMC + OpenGL Vert Sync + No De-interlacing
Nvidia 8762 driver + XvMC + OpenGL Vert Sync + Bob De-interlace
Both of these FX440 cases look just like what I see with the GeForce 6200
using Bob de-interlace. It appears with the FX440 that "no de-interlacing"
is actually being bob de-interlaced. I think this is why I had never
observed the field order issue previous to installing the Geforce 6200.
Well why not just turn on bob de-interlacing for the 6200 and be done with
it? Well, the 1080i image quality produced with the 6200 using "no
de-interlacing" is much better, (.that is as long as the field order stays
correct).
