There is a key mapping in  xine (F2 key) to jump to the root menu. You 
could change either the xine key mappings or the lirc key mapping so the 
menu button on your remote does what you want either should work.

OK I think I understand now. That's a different thing than the original 
problem where the entire menu was being scaled to the wrong aspect 
ration. I'm not seeing this at all. Maybe you could take a screen shot 
so I can see exactly what you are seeing.

Are you re-encoding the audio to AC3? or did the file require re-encoding?
