I use mplex and mencoder to prepare the recording for DVD creation,
like shown here:
http://home.arcor.de/scorpidnb/mythtv/mythcutprojectx
The mplex part is just for re-multiplexing the audio and video tracks.
You don't need it if you have a MPEG stream as your input file.
