Sports events are far more demanding to encode than the average TV show.
Lots of fast movement, details (especially with soccer - think of the
grass field..), etc. This was painfully obvious here in Finland where
the DVB broadcast was of a particularly horrible quality. Anyways, if
you want to keep them around in transcoded format, I'd recommend to
create a special transcoding profile for the purpose and give it a
significantly higher bitrate than your other profile(s).
