What was at 51 degrees C?  The processor?   256MB is a little cramped, but
probably not the cause of your lockups.

System spec is that it's a combo back and frontend. 2.4Ghz Celeron
> CPU, 80GB disk, 256MB RAM. Fedora Core 3.


A little more detail here would be helpful.   What motherboard?  What
capture card?  What version of the capture drivers?  Which kernel?

If you think you might have dodgy memory, you might want to run memtest86 on
it for a few hours.
