I don't know if what you're talking about is possible, but I run a
digital and analog connection from the mythbox to my amp. I have the
TV audio set to alsa:analog and the music, DVD, and video set to
alsa:digital. This way the music, videos and DVDs all come on the
digital line and come out the stereo speakers and the tv audio can be
routed to the TV speakers. The only time I have to change anything is
when I want the tv audio to come out the stereo speakers.
HD recordings with 5.1 audio would be a problem for this set up though
