You say i.e. Windows?  How about ".net"?  Microsoft actually had the
balls to copyright the top level domain of nearly half the registered
(US) domains.  And use it to refer to a programming language that the
servers of most of those domains cannot run.  (Because most ".net"
domains were ISPs, and most of them ran Unix because NT was a disaster. 
I know cause I was in the business in 95.)  Every time I hear someone
say "dot net" it pisses me off.  It's not marketing brilliance, it
marketing hijacking.  How bad does it suck that I have to visit "PHP DOT
NET" hundreds of times a day?  Wow, I'm really wound up!
