You didn't mention what video/audio hardware you're using. If you're  
using an nVidia card with their (proprietary) drivers this could be  
your problem. Try not using GL, either comment out "load glx" in your  
X conf or re-compile mythtv without opengl support. This solved an  
identical problem for me.

If you're not using nVidia, then I have no idea :-)
